Averitt offers OTJ program for veterans

Averitt Express is offering a new on-the-job training diesel mechanics program for veterans and family members with Post 9/11 GI Bill benefits.

Individual selected for the wage-paying program will receive training from Averitt shop leaders, maintenance coordinators and experienced technicians on everything from basic computer skills to assisting with in-depth repair on tractor-trailers.

Participants will receive 12 months of on-the-job training and are eligible to earn up to $1,140 per month tax free through the GI Bill in addition to weekly Averitt pay – which starts at $10.75 an hour, reaches $18.30/hour at Month 11 and $21.50 after Month 12 – and benefits.

To apply for the program visit www.averittsaultesyou.com or call 888-AVERITT. The Tennessee-based carrier has made a commitment to hiring 1,200 additional veterans to the hundreds already on its rolls by 2020.

“At Averitt Express, we believe that every veteran deserves to work in a supportive environment with a company focused on his or her success,” Averitt personnel manager Laura Wettack said in a press release announcing the program. “We’re proud to honor veterans and their families by helping them embark on fulfilling second careers."
